Volleyball Alumni Night

by: Angela Sandoval

The first Local Alumni Association Chapter Social was held Thursday, Oct. 27, before the Dig Pink volleyball game. The purpose of both events is to support breast cancer awareness. Director of Alumni Affairs, Dawn Wolf-Tayler says, “The goal of the event is to help give back to the school and continue supporting them through the Alumni Program.”

Around 15 local alumni with their families attended the gathering to eat and get to know each other, and to support the Zias’ volleyball team. ENMU alumna Betsy Chaves says that the alumni socials are a good way for all the different generations of Eastern Alumni to come together and continue supporting our school as a community.

Not only do they support sporting events, they also hold raffles at every gathering and have a summer Shrimp Boil. These events raise money for scholarships for the students, and are another way to give back.

Even though the Zias did not walk away with a win that night, they were still very successful in raising money for the breast cancer “Think Pink Week.” Demesia Medina of Zeta Tau Alpha says they expect to reach their goal of over $3,000 from all the events, including the pink signed volleyball raffle and their spaghetti dinner.
